Akshaya and Manvi were very pleased to be able to share their knowledge about Ganesh Chaturathi with the class today. This special Indian festival is on Thursday 17th September this year. It celebrates Ganesh's Birthday.
Manvi explained that people bring home murtis (which are statues of Lord Ganesh) and immerse them in water, traditionally at a beach.
They worship Lord Ganesh as he is the one who can remove all obstacles to success. He is the giverof fortune and can help to avoid natural calamaties. Ganesha (Ganbati) is the god of wisdom, success and prosperity.
Over his birthday, people eat different things that Ganesh likes, including Modak (Ladoos), Dhurva Grass, Shankh, Banana and Erukku flowers.
